Indian Public Library Movement participated in the 'National Panchayat Book Fair' being organized by the National Book Trust (NBT). This is a noble initiative of NBT to involve the Panchayati Raj Institutions for promoting the culture of reading in the rural areas.
The first National Panchayat Book Fair was started at Srinagar, Uttarakhand, and will continue till 28th February, 2018. This event is being organized with the active support and collaboration of the Department of Education and the Department of Panchayati Raj of the Government of Uttarakhand. The Book Fair, besides the general visitors, saw participation of a spectrum of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads, to enable them to contribute towards the promotion of the culture of reading and build Panchayat level libraries to contribute towards the development of the State in building knowledge economy.
One of the major highlights of the Panchayat Book Fair is a Two-Day Conference of Select 200 Gram Pradhans of Uttarakhand. Titled Sarpanch Samaagam, the Conference had talks and interactive sessions to discuss the challenges and prospects of promoting reading habit, IPLM participated in the conference with an interactive session around the scope and possibilities of setting up and re-energizing public libraries.
