The M.M. Central State Library of Patiala observed the World Earth Day on 21st April 2018 with its staff and student users. The demand to organize an event came from the students who access the library on a regular basis. About 30 students and 10 library staff participated in a discussion on ways they can address some of the pressing environmental problems through reduce, reuse and recycle.
Discussions varied from ensuring provision of RO drinking water in the public space in helping reduce the use of plastic bottles to provisions for segregating waste and promote recycling. The participants got together in segregating waste at the library and it was agreed that henceforth all bio degradable waste will be processed into manure in the library lawns and only the non degradable waste will be handed to the Municipality.
The M.M. Central State Library is an IPLM intervention library aiming to re position the public libraries in the country.
