District Central Library at Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, organized a one day workshop with MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) on 07 April 2018 on Soil and Water Testing in Narthampoondi village of Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu.

Forty three farmers participated in the workshop, in which discussions were held around understanding water and soil quality and its impact on the agricultural yield. Mr. Silambarasan, from MSSRF facilitated the technical sessions and also demonstrated the soil and water testing in the field. Some of the issues that farmers brought forth for discussion were on low agricultural yields, high input costs for the paddy and sugarcane crops and economically viable remedial measures.

In the coming days, the participating farmers, will collect soil samples from their fields and deposit it in the library for testing. The library is also facilitating the service of a mobile van that will conduct water quality test from agricultural fields of 100-150 farmers in Narthampoondi and hamlets around it. This van will be in service till 10th April 2018.
