The twelfth health session on Diet and Nutrition was organised by the Indian Public Library Movement (IPLM) in collaboration with Medanta Telemedicine on 11 July 2018. Dr. Kajal Pandya, Head, Dietetics, Medanta chaired the session.
The session was live webcast and 13 libraries participated: 1) TS Central State Library Chandigarh 2) Amritsar District Library 3) Kota Divisional Library 4) Amir-ud-Daula Public Library, Lucknow 5) District Library, Pratapgarh 6) District Library, Varanasi 7) District Library, Etawa 8)UP State Central Library, Allahabad 9) Pune Marathi Granthalaya, Pune 10) M M Central State Library, Patiala 11) District Library of Faizabad 12) District Library of Kathua , Jammu& Kashmir and 13) Dr. Radha Krishnan State Central Library, Jaipur.
The nutrition-based session focussed on improving overall health and wellness outcomes. The presentation covered aspects of the importance and components of a well-balanced meal, meal content, addressed some of the beliefs, practices, and taboos around food; healthy lifestyles and body weight across different age groups. During the interactive session, some of the concerns raised by participants in addressing cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, obesity through nutrition and diet were taken up by Dr. Pandya.
