A three months training programme beginning February 2018, on tailoring was initiated in the District Library of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu an intervention library of the Indian Public Library Movement.
Seven women from the nearby community have taken part in the training. Mr. Vadivelu, an expert in tailoring in the district was the chief trainer in the programme. Having completed the course on stitching recently, the training will now be on embellishments. Mr Sairam, Librarian, shares that the training was possible with the support of patrons and library staff. Donations from the patrons and the pro active support of some of the library staff in getting their personal sewing machines for hands on training led to the success of the programme.
He further adds, this training will go a long way in providing a livelihood opportunity for these trainees. The demand from the community for conducting similar such trainings in the future is on the rise and we will plan to roll them soon, said Sairam.
